Magento to Shopify Migration

Enterprise Magento migrations carry real technical weight — EAV attributes, complex configurable products, B2B pricing logic, and often a shrinking pool of Magento developers driving up maintenance costs. We handle the mapping complexity so your catalog, your pricing logic and your rankings all survive the move intact.

Should You Actually Migrate?

For most mid-market DTC and B2B merchants, the case for moving is real: rising Magento hosting and maintenance costs, a shrinking pool of qualified Magento developers, and Shopify B2B feature coverage closing many of the gaps that historically kept complex merchants on Magento.

When staying on Magento still makes sense

Deeply custom B2B pricing logic with negotiated quote workflows that Shopify B2B cannot yet fully replicate, extremely large catalogs (100K+ SKUs) with heavy EAV attribute complexity, and multi-store architectures where the rebuild cost outweighs the benefit are the genuine exceptions. A proper discovery audit tells you honestly which category applies before any commitment is made.

The Technical Mapping Magento Requires

Magento ConceptShopify EquivalentWhat to Watch
EAV attributesMetafieldsNot a direct mapping — needs individual review per attribute type.
Configurable productsProduct variantsComplex configurations with 3+ option types may need restructuring.
Customer groups & tier pricingShopify B2B CatalogsB2B has closed many gaps as of Winter 2026, but deep custom logic needs verification.
Multi-storeShopify MarketsNot a direct equivalent — architecture differs and needs its own assessment.

Our Migration Process

1

Discovery & Audit

Catalog complexity, EAV attribute count, integration map and a documented rollback plan, before anything moves.

2

Strategy & Scoping

A decision on theme versus headless build, and mapping every Magento extension to its closest Shopify app equivalent — auditing feature parity, not assuming it.

3

Attribute & Data Mapping

EAV attributes become metafields, configurable products become variants, with manual review on complex cases.

4

Integration Mapping

ERP, PIM, CRM and other connected systems are mapped, authenticated and tested individually.

5

Data Migration

Products, customers, order history, blog posts and CMS pages transferred with full validation.

6

Redirect Mapping

Comprehensive 301 redirect mapping from the typically customized Magento URLs to the fixed Shopify structure.

7

Launch & Verify

Full validation, monitored cutover, and post-launch verification against the original rollback plan.

Magento to Shopify Migration — FAQ

Not always, and a proper answer says so plainly. The exceptions are real but narrow: deep custom B2B pricing logic that Shopify B2B cannot yet fully replicate, extremely large catalogs (100K+ SKUs) with complex EAV attribute structures, and Magento multi-store architectures where the rebuild cost is genuinely significant. For most mid-market merchants, though, rising Magento maintenance costs and a shrinking pool of Magento developers make the case for moving.

EAV (Entity-Attribute-Value) is the flexible product attribute system used by Magento, and it does not map directly to the Shopify structure. Magento attributes need to become Shopify metafields, and complex configurable products may need manual review rather than an automatic one-to-one conversion.

As of Winter 2026, Shopify B2B has closed many of the feature gaps that historically kept complex merchants on Magento — company accounts, tiered pricing, negotiated pricing, and wholesale ordering are supported on Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus plans, with Plus offering higher limits. Deeply custom B2B logic with quote workflows is the scenario most likely to still need careful evaluation before migrating.

Custom Magento modules cannot be directly transferred — each one needs to be mapped to its closest Shopify app equivalent, and feature parity should be verified rather than assumed. The Shopify app ecosystem covers most common functionality, but custom or unusual extensions need individual assessment.

More complex than most platform migrations, because Magento URL structures are typically the most customized of any major ecommerce platform. The fixed Shopify /products/ and /collections/ structure rarely matches those patterns, making comprehensive 301 redirect mapping non-negotiable during cutover.

Highly dependent on catalog complexity, custom extension count and integration scope — small catalogs can move in weeks, while complex enterprise projects with ERP integrations and multi-store consolidation take considerably longer. We provide a specific timeline after a discovery audit of your store.

For mid-market and enterprise merchants, integrations often represent more work than the catalog transfer itself. ERP, PIM, CRM, order management and tax systems all need to be mapped, authenticated and tested individually as part of the migration scope.

Multi-store Magento architectures map to Shopify differently — typically through Shopify Markets rather than a direct equivalent. This is assessed as part of the discovery phase since the right approach depends on how the multi-store setup is actually used.
